SERVICES
Assessment, race preparation and on-board tech on Lac Léman.
Advisory starts by looking at the boat and listening to the programme. Then we touch the hardware — cockpit, electronics, running rigging. The next step is the parts order: see Parts & sourcing.
Owner advisory.
An experienced eye, an opinion, a plan. We look at the boat, listen to the programme, and deliver a written document that stays with you.
-
Maintenance & refit plan
On-board visit, technical exchange, written document delivered. The document sorts work to plan by priority — from immediate safety to upgrades — with, for each item, an indication of yard-or-DIY and a rough estimate where known. Experienced eye, opinion and plan.
- On-board visit + live technical exchange
- Written document delivered: work sorted by priority
- Each item: [yard] or DIY + rough estimate
- Stays as a reference when you compare quotes
-
Race preparation
Getting boat and crew ready for the programme: coastal cruising, Translémanique, Bol d’Or. Sail inventory, running-rigging choices, target settings, instrument calibration. Written prep document, usable by the crew on race day.
- Sail inventory + real state per sail
- Running rigging matched to the programme
- Target settings + instrument calibration
- Written document, ready for the crew
On-board tech.
Cockpit, electronics, on-board energy, running rigging. Tested aboard before we recommend — JAMEZ serves as the test bench.
-
Navigation electronics
Heading/wind/speed sensor choice and calibration, cockpit↔chart-table integration, reading the data that actually drives decisions. A miscalibrated instrument lies more than it informs.
- Heading, true / apparent wind, ground / surface speed
- Rigorous on-the-water calibration
- Cockpit ↔ chart table integration
- Sensor choice (B&G, Raymarine, Vakaros)
-
Electrics & Lithium transformation advisory
Lead → lithium migration, sizing, BMS, dashboard integration. Independent purchasing advisory — we’re not installers; we help you choose and dialogue with your yard.
- Sizing (Ah, real-world use)
- Brand + BMS choice
- Alternator, charger, panel integration
- Independent advice — no install up-sell
-
Rigging, deck organisation
Clutches, halyards, cascading vang, low-friction rings: every choice is driven by the manoeuvre, not the catalogue. Cockpit refresh to gain ergonomics without redoing the whole thing.
- Clutches, Marlow / Dyneema halyards
- Cascading vang, Antal rings
- Cockpit re-org for racing
- Tested aboard before we recommend

FAQ
Questions fréquentes.
Are you a shipyard?
No. Blu Estates Marine is an advisory and sourcing operation — assessment, maintenance planning, technical choices, race preparation. For heavy work that needs a slipway and major equipment, we point you to the right yard on Lac Léman.
Do you work on sailboats other than the J/92s?
Yes. The method is the same whatever the boat. We document the JAMEZ refit (J/92s) to illustrate the approach, but the expertise applies to all cruising and racing sailboats on Lac Léman.
Do you only work on sailboats?
No. The same services — advisory, maintenance planning, parts sourcing, on-board tech — are available for motorboats. The only exception: race preparation is sailboat-specific.
Do you prepare for the Bol d’Or and other Léman regattas?
Yes. Rig prep, tuning, safety-gear check, tactical choices — every step before the major Léman regattas (Bol d’Or Mirabaud, Translémanique, Tour du Léman, Geneva-Rolle-Geneva).
How does an assessment work?
On-board visit at your berth. Systematic inspection of rig, equipment, interior. Written report with priorities. The budget discussion comes next, based on what you want to commit to.
