Blu Estates Marine is a marine advisory operation run by Blu Estates Sàrl. Sailing is practised here with method: an experienced navigator, a J/92s being refitted as a test bench, and a parts catalogue accessible by quote.
Background.
Sailing started in dinghies — 420, 470, Hobie Cat 16 — then in match-racing in Italy, where I sailed from bowman to skipper at Grades 3 to 5. Demanding discipline: with equivalent equipment, what separates two skippers is the read of the playing field, the timing of the tacks, the cleanness of the manoeuvres.
Later, coastal racing on top keelboats in Italy: First 34.7 Vulcano 2, Italia Yachts 11.98 Guardamago II, Vismara 46 Duende. A few results that mattered — Line Honour at the Roma-Giraglia 2013, 1st IRC Overall; 3rd IRC and ORC Overall in 2019. And a season in the United States across J/111, J/105 and Farr 40 on the San Francisco Bay, including the 100 nm Spinnaker Cup to Monterey.
And the role that taught me the most: navigator on maxi yachts. A few races on the Farr 60 Durlindana 3 between 2016 and 2018 — Rolex Giraglia, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, 151 Miglia, Lunga Bolina — then in 2022 the ORC Corinthian World Champion title, 3rd Overall, on the Milius 1498 Milù 3. Main tool: Expedition Marine. Reading polars, choosing the route, managing currents and wind shifts — sitting in that seat is where you understand that a miscalibrated data point is worth less than an intuition that knows what it doesn’t know.
On Lac Léman, three editions of the Bol d’Or — Tarangau 2021, Rantanplan 2024 and 2026 — as tactician, helmsman and trimmer. The lake does not sail like the Mediterranean: thermal currents, slope breezes, short distances but minute-by-minute swings in strength and direction. That demands a different kind of vigilance — and it’s precisely why I chose to plant Blu Estates Marine here.
From all those years, one certainty: on the water, equipment must serve the programme — not the other way around. A cruising boat doesn’t need the same running rigging as a race boat. A cockpit that takes three movements to gybe costs seconds at every manoeuvre. A miscalibrated instrument lies more than it informs. Blu Estates Marine was born from the desire to make this experience useful to other owners on Lac Léman, with JAMEZ — a J/92s acquired in 2024 — as the continuous test bench.
